How Remo Stars got relegated
Sunshine Stars FC on Saturday ended the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign safely with a 1-0 derby triumph over Remo Stars in Shagamu.
Sunshine Stars who still had safety to play for in the week 38 tie were frustrated in the first half by a spirited Remo Stars that were playing passionately for just pride.
However the Duke Udi tinkered side found a breakthrough moments after the restart when captain, Alaba Adeniyi set up Sikiru Alimi to tap in from close range for the only goal of the Southwest derby.
The Akure Landlords will later contained the Sky Blues and secured their third away win to finish the season in 10th position with 54 points.
During a post match interview with Sunshine Stars FC Media Udi commended the team’s management and his players for all putting in a shift in the quest to achieve safety in a difficult season.

“First I thank God almighty for everything, also thanks to Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu for his support. Kudos to the Otunba Elegbeleye led Interim Committe for providing great leadership. Sad Elegbeleye said he has ended his assignment with us. He will surely be missed.”
