Buhari to bankroll Ekwueme’s medical expenses abroad
Ailing ex-V.P. Alex Ekwueme will be flown abroad for urgent medical treatment courtesy of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The presidency said Friday that Buhari authorised the trip after being briefed on Ekwueme’s state of health at the Intensive Care Unit of Memphys Hospital, Enugu.
Ekwueme, 85, collapsed last Sunday in his home, and slipped into a coma, thereafter.
On Monday, his family said in a statement that the former leader’s health was stable.

Buhari’s directive covers “the immediate charter of an Air Ambulance for the emergency movement and the cost of treatment”, a statement signed by spokesperson Garba Shehu said.
The president also prayed that God will grant the elder statesman speedy recovery, Sheu added.
This, many believe, will be another political move Buhari is making to endear himself to the southeast where he met a brick wall during the 2015 presidential poll.
Analysts are suspecting the president is getting ready to contest in 2019, though he has yet to declare.
