Man bags 6 months for stealing mosquito nets
A 20-year-old man, Olalekan Adebisi, was on Monday sentenced to six months imprisonment by Mapo Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for scaling the fence of Bode Health Centre, and stole 50 pieces of mosquito nets in the process.
However, before today’s conviction, the convict had already spent five months at Agodi Prison due to his inability to perfect the bail conditions of N50, 000 earlier granted him.
As a result, the Senior Magistrate, Mrs Mercy Aderounmu observed that since the convict had already spent five months, he would now do a community service for four weeks within the court premises.
It was learnt that the convict was first arraigned on June 7 on a count charge of stealing but pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail with two sureties in like sum, but could not perfect the bail conditions.
However, Adebisi was said to have changed his plea to guilty on November 13, after spending five months in prison custody, and the case was adjourned until November 20 for facts and sentences.

According to the prosecutor, Corporal Philip Amusan, told the court that the convict (Adebisi) had on May 30 jumped the fence of Bode Health Centre, Ibadan, and stole 50 pieces of mosquito nets.
Again, on June 3 at about 5.00 a.m, Adebisi also attempted to steal additional mosquito nets by jumping the fence but luck ran out of him as he was apprehended by one of the security guards and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor further told the court that Adebisi disposed the nets by hawking them and sold some to individuals he could not identify.
The offence was said to have contravened Section 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000 and was handed six months imprisonment.
