Jong-Un threatens to pull out of talks with Trump
The continued joint military drills in the Korean Peninsula by the United States of America and South Korea threaten the peace talks between North Korea and South Korea, including the proposed summit between North Korea and US. Apparently, tension is rising over possible renewal of hostilities between the North and the South Korea.
Invariably, North Korea on Tuesday canceled talks with South Korea which was earlier scheduled for Wednesday, and threatened to cancel the proposed June summit involving President Donald Trump of the US and Kim Jong-Un of North Korea.
North Korea cited joint U.S.-South Korea military drills as reason for the change in the diplomatic reconciliation initiative.
North Korea leader had penultimate week held a meeting with the South Korean leader cross the red line few meters into the South Korean territory. At the summit, both countries agreed to cease hostilities and desist from killing their own people, muting the possibility of further dialogue which the world anticipated could precipitate re-union of the two Korean territories.
North Korea also released three American prisoners last week and promised to start dismantling a nuclear test site as part of efforts to lay the groundwork for talks with Trump.
It was not clear whether Trump would bow to Kim’s demand to cancel the drills. The military drills in the Korean peninsula were cited as reasons by North Korea to commence test of its nuclear missiles in the pacific and across the Korean continental belt. North Korea had interpreted the US. South Korea joint military drills in the peninsula as threat to North Korea territory.
