Nigeria heads off FIFA hammer; Giwa loses
The Presidency on has declared it recognises the Amaju Pinnick-led executives of the Nigerian Football Federation as the actual body in charge of the game in Nigeria.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, tweeted this on his Twitter handle, @akande
According to him, the Federal Government has already conveyed its position to the world football governing body, FIFA.
He said the government would continue to work with stakeholders to resolve the federation’s dispute in due time.
“Government will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve the dispute in a timely manner.
“The Federal Government is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.”
The row between the Pinnick and Giwa faction defied the intervention of VP Yemi Osinbajo, and Nigeria was going to be sanctioned by FIFA today if the crisis was nit resolved in favour of Pinnick.
