Adeleke to Osun voters: Don’t let APC drag us Back to ‘half salary’ days

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has cautioned residents against a return to what he termed the “half salary” era, calling on voters to safeguard the gains made under his administration ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election.

The governor, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, made the appeal in a post on X on Thursday as campaign activities picked up pace across the state.

Adeleke took aim at the previous administration, accusing it of subjecting civil servants to severe hardship by paying them only half of their salaries, leaving many struggling to cover basic living expenses.

“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” he wrote.

He urged residents eligible to vote to reject what he characterized as a push to return the state to a period of hardship, framing the election as a choice between continuing his administration’s policies or reverting to the past.

According to Adeleke, those responsible for the earlier salary shortfalls had effectively used poverty as a political tool, and were now seeking to reclaim power. He maintained that his government had made civil servants’ welfare a central priority since taking office and pledged to keep protecting the interests of workers and residents if re-elected.

The governor also addressed the recent freezing of state government accounts, arguing that the move would only harden residents’ determination to defend what he called their electoral mandate.

He closed his message with a direct appeal to voters: “The choice is clear: progress over regression, good governance over neglect. Accord over APC.”

The governorship election is set for August 15, with Adeleke running for a second term on the Accord Party ticket.
