Atlético Madrid reject €75m opportunity to sign Osimhen despite striker’s interest

Victor Osimhen has reportedly missed out on a potential move to Atlético Madrid after the La Liga side declined the chance to sign the Nigerian striker from Galatasaray in the ongoing summer transfer window.

According to reports by Club Uria, cited by Goal, intermediaries offered Osimhen to Atlético Madrid for a transfer fee of around €75 million, but the Spanish club decided against pursuing the deal.

The report stated that the 27-year-old forward was willing to accept a reduction in his salary to secure a move to Madrid and work under Atlético manager Diego Simeone.

Despite the player’s reported interest, Atlético are said to have ruled out the transfer, citing financial constraints and their confidence in current first-choice striker Julián Álvarez.

The club reportedly considers Álvarez a key part of its long-term plans and has no intention of selling the Argentine forward, making an additional high-profile striker unnecessary.

Financial considerations also played a significant role in Atlético’s decision. Reports indicate that the club is not in a position to commit €75 million to a single signing during the current transfer window.

Osimhen, who remains under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, is believed to earn a lucrative salary in Turkey, with favourable tax arrangements for foreign players boosting his net income.

However, reports suggest the Nigerian international was prepared to accept lower wages in order to complete a move to Atlético Madrid, highlighting his desire to join Simeone’s squad.

Despite that willingness, Atlético have reportedly remained firm in their decision not to proceed with the transfer, leaving Osimhen’s immediate future at Galatasaray unchanged.
