Adéwálé STEM Contest 2023: Apt Scholars Universal College Wins N1.5M
In a display of intellectual prowess, Apt Scholars Universal College emerged triumphant at the Adéwálé Students’ Conference and Inter-School STEM quiz competition (or Adéwálé STEM Contest 2023), securing the coveted N1,500,000 grand prize.
The event, held on the 28th and 29th of September 2023 at the Ogun State NYSC Multipurpose Hall in Sagamu, marked the culmination of a yearlong journey that began with a fierce zonal qualifying round involving 300 schools from 19 local government areas of Ogun State.
Apt Scholars Universal College’s victory for the second consecutive year underscored their unwavering commitment to academic excellence. In addition, the school’s teacher, who played a pivotal role in guiding the students to success, received a well-deserved cash prize of ₦300,000.
The Adéwálé STEM Contest 2023, themed “Shaping the Minds of World Shapers,” transcended the boundaries of traditional competition. It inspired students to think differently, push the boundaries of possibility, and solve complex problems. The event’s significance was further highlighted by its generous prize money, totaling ₦5,000,000, shared among the participating schools.

The academic journey of the Adéwálé STEM Contest featured 48 qualified schools that navigated several stages of theory-based tests and rapid-fire quiz contests. Adedokun International Schools, Iloye, claimed the honourable position of first runner-up, securing a prize of ₦500,000.
Meanwhile, The Ambassadors College and The Crescent Int’l School jointly celebrated as second runners-up, each receiving a scholarship prize of ₦250,000. All quarter-finalists were duly acknowledged with a scholarship prize of ₦100,000 each.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the event featured an inspiring keynote address by Mr. Oluyemi Oloyede, Managing Director/CEO of UAC Foods. He shared his personal journey, emphasising the role of educational platforms like the Adéwálé Students’ Conference in shaping his path to success. Oloyede encouraged students to view competition not merely as a race against others but as a journey of personal growth, boundary-pushing, and problem-solving.
In the same light, the First Lady of Ogun State, H.E. Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, represented by Mrs. Funke Oyeneye, spotlighted the significance of early education as the bedrock upon which the state’s future rests. Her words resonated as she pledged unwavering support for the Adéwálé Students’ Conference, aligning with her steadfast commitment to education.
The event also introduced a stimulating debate segment, generously sponsored by GBFoods’ Bama, a renowned mayonnaise brand in Nigeria. This segment enriched the program by providing students with an opportunity to delve into topical issues and hone their critical thinking skills.
