Akeredolu compares, contrasts Tompolo with Amotekun, demands sophisticated weapons
Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has once again wonder why the federal government who issued armed security contract to Niger Delta ex militant Government Ekpemupolo will not grant same armed status to state’s security agencies.
Amotekun operatives carry only Dane guns now to cunter terrorists and bandits armed with SMG, AK-47, RPG, and others.
The governor aired his view this during the inauguration of the newly built office complex at the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, OSOPADEC, in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of the State
To improve local government security, the Commission, led by Chairman Sam Erejuwa, gave the chairmen of Ilaje and Ese-Odo two patrol cars and three motorbikes.
Lamenting, Akeredolu said, “Most of the people and even some of my colleagues didn’t really understand my position on the oil pipeline surveillance contract.
“I have no issue with the federal government awarding surveillance contracts to anybody. It is the federal government’s money. They can use it anyhow they want.
“Here, we are spending our money on Amotekun. And what I said in my statement titled ‘Who Actually Needs Weapons’ was that the federal government should allow Amotekun to carry sophisticated weapons like those whom they awarded pipeline surveillance contracts.”
Tompolo bagged a N48bn pipeline surveillance contract which the federal government awarded him weeks ago.
The ex-militant leader said youth in the oil-producing communities will take up the paid task of securing the oil assets.
He has yet to speak about the armed status of the contract.
