ASUU splinter group registers, receives official recognition from FG
Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige is set to issue a certificate of recognition to a new trade union in the university system.
The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) is a splinter of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU).
ASUU has been on strike for eight months, and there is no certainty the strike will be called off even after series of negotiations and compromises.
The rank of the university teachers’ union has also been worried about the rigidity of the negotiating team.
CONUA coming on now presents the federal government the opportunity to break ASUU ranks.
“The Honorable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, cordially invites you to the recognition and presentation of Certificate of Registration to the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA),” Oshundun Olajide, Deputy Director/Head Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, said in a statement on Tuesday.
