The report reaching National Daily reveals that Manchester United can finally bring Mason Mount to Old Trafford after reaching a breakthrough in talks with Chelsea while closing in on agreeing a £60million for the midfielder.

The England international who is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge has not hidden his desire to quit the west London club with Erik ten Hag making him a top transfer target.

National Daily learnt that United have earlier seen an opening bid of £40m rejected last week with an improved offer of £45m plus £5m in add-ons also turned away on Wednesday.

Chelsea were believed to have placed a £70m valuation on the 24-year-old despite the England international having just one year left on his contract but National Daily now learnt from the claim by The Mirror that United have now found ‘middle ground’ with the Blues with the move now close to being completed.

The report claims United and Chelsea are ready to meet in the middle and agree to a £60m deal to bring the Portsmouth born midfielder old to Old Trafford.

It is understood that Mount has made his intention to exit Stamford Bridge clear to Chelsea without concealing his eagerness to work under ten Hag who had previously attempted to sign him while at Ajax.

Mount originally caught ten Hag’s eye during his impressive spell on loan with Vitesse Arnhem during the 2017-18 campaign and attempted to sign him on loan for Dutch club the following summer.

Mount eventually joined Derby County to play under Frank Lampard before breaking into the Chelsea side the following campaign.
