By Ihuoma Inyama
Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr is aiming for multiple nominations at the 2027 Grammy Awards after submitting her music across several major categories.
The singer’s latest album, Starrgirl, has been submitted for Album of the Year, Best Global Music Album, Best Engineered Album and Best Album Cover.
Her collaboration with British singer Zayn Malik, “Heaven Baby,” is also in contention for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.
Starr’s other submissions include “Who’s Dat Girl” with Rema for Best Global Music Performance, while “Ms. Paper” with Theodora, “Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?)” with Angélique Kidjo, “Le Show” with Davido and French Montana, and “Show Me” with Latto have been submitted for Best African Music Performance.
She also submitted “Tornado” for Best Music Video and “Wo Man – Edit” with Peggy Gou for Best Dance Pop Recording.
The submissions come as Starr continues to expand her presence on the global music scene, following her recent history-making NFL performance in London.
However, the submissions do not guarantee nominations. The Recording Academy’s voting members will determine which entries advance to the final nominations, with the 2027 Grammy nominees scheduled to be announced on November 16.
The 69th Grammy Awards will take place on February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles.
