Buhari unveils e-Naira with $29bn promise
President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled Nigeria’s digital currency e-Naira.
Buhari launched it at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, in the presence of Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and others.
The digital currency was billed to be unveiled on October 1 but was shifted due to activities on Independence Day.
The country’s apex bank had said the e-Naira is a culmination of several years of research work in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier.
Buhari said the digital currency will boost Nigeria’s GDP by $29 billion in 10 years.
