Carrick holds talks with Fernandes after Man United Captain’s Bournemouth bench snub
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has held clear-the-air talks with captain Bruno Fernandes following the midfielder’s omission from the starting line-up in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.
Fernandes remained on the bench for the entire match, prompting speculation that the decision was linked to his reported criticism of Carrick’s tactics following United’s defeat to Como in the Champions League.
The development raised questions about the relationship between the manager and his captain, particularly amid uncertainty over Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
However, with United’s hierarchy deciding to retain Carrick ahead of the Premier League trip to Chelsea, both men have now met to address the situation.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the meeting in a post on X, saying Carrick and Fernandes had spoken face-to-face to resolve the tension surrounding the captain’s benching.
“Michael Carrick and captain Bruno Fernandes have met face-to-face to clear the air after Portuguese star was benched for 90 minutes against Bournemouth,” Romano wrote.
He added that Fernandes was now expected to feature when Manchester United face Chelsea on Saturday.
The anticipated return of Fernandes would provide a boost for United as they prepare for the crucial encounter, with the Portugal international remaining an influential figure in the team.
The talks also appear aimed at easing tensions within the squad as Carrick seeks to maintain stability and improve the club’s performances.
United will hope the discussions help the manager and captain move beyond the controversy and focus on securing a positive result against Chelsea.
