Court denies KC Luxury bail in alleged 184.5kg cocaine trafficking case [VIDEO]
The Federal High Court in Lagos has rejected the bail application of socialite Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, who is standing trial over alleged cocaine trafficking and money laundering.
Justice Musa Kakaki, in a ruling on Wednesday, held that the application did not provide sufficient evidence to justify granting bail, particularly the absence of a medical certificate supporting the defendant’s claim of illness.
“There is no medical certificate to warrant the court to grant him bail,” the judge said.
The court also noted that where a defendant relies on a special medical need to seek bail, evidence from a qualified medical expert would be required to explain the condition.
However, Kakaki directed officials of the Ikoyi custodial centre to give Michael unrestricted access to doctors and medical specialists for the treatment of any health condition.
The judge ordered an accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned proceedings until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

Michael is standing trial alongside Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch on a 22-count charge bordering on an alleged conspiracy to export 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom and money laundering.
The three defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
At an earlier court sitting on October 23, Michael was brought to the court premises in an ambulance while reportedly receiving oxygen.
A correctional service officer had informed the court that the defendant was critically ill and had been hospitalised, prompting the officer to call a nurse to testify about his medical condition.
The nurse, Bukki Yahya, who is attached to the Police Hospital in Falomo, Lagos, told the court that Michael was admitted to the hospital on October 7, 2026, and diagnosed with asthma and sepsis.
Yahya explained that Michael remained inside the ambulance at the court premises because he was receiving oxygen.
Despite the medical concerns raised during the proceedings, the judge held that the bail application lacked the required medical documentation.
The court’s decision means Michael will remain in custody pending further proceedings, while the directive on access to medical care is expected to ensure that he receives treatment as necessary.
The case is scheduled to resume on November 2, when the court is expected to begin hearing the substantive charges against the defendants.
The allegations against the defendants remain unproven, and they are presumed innocent unless convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.
