Crisis rocks Sanwo-Olu’s campaign organization
- Protests as Aregbesola takes over governorship campaign
The Babajide Sanwo-Olu Governorship Campaign Organization has been engulfed in crisis over control of the organization in the preparations for the 2019 governorship election in Lagos State. Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos have been having a running battle with former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, over control of the campaign organization and the various campaign activities for the March 2 governorship poll in the state.
Internal source from the Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation revealed that the crisis which has been lingering for weeks, arose from the sudden invasion of the organization by the former Osun State Governor who came in to take over the running of the campaign organization and displacing Sanwo-Olu’s loyalists who have been running the affairs of the APC candidate. The former Osun Governor was alleged to have come with his team and intending to install his own structure which will mean removing many of the principal officers who have been running the organization before his coming with his own men.
Internal party sources alleged that the lingering crisis is already breeding bad blood in the organisation, and is beginning to raise sentiments of indigenes and non-indigenes in the campaign organisation.
Some party stakeholders were, however, of the view that former Governor Aregbesola is only getting involved in the organization to strengthen the campaign plans and activities, bringing his experience as a former governor and renowned politician in Lagos State.
Meanwhile, some have suggested that the party leader in the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would have to intervene to end the lingering crisis and pit the house together.
