Delta Commissioner cries out about shoddy construction jobs.
Commissioner for Works, Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr Solomon Golley, has urged engineers constructing roads in Delta to refrain from delivering substandard jobs and embrace professionalism.
Golley gave this advice when the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Asaba chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba on Monday.
The commissioner decried the shoddy job done at the Inter-Bau bridge, in Asaba, and attributed it to carelessness on the part of the engineer that handled the project.
Golley said that the shoddy job was a minus on the ethics of engineering profession.
The commissioner, who promised to liaise with other management staff of the ministry to help achieve the NSE 2021 budget, encouraged them to have a constant interface with the management to actualise their objectives.
Earlier, the branch Chairman, Mr Christopher Ayidu, had appealed to the commissioner to pay attention to professionalism, promote training and retraining of engineers in the ministry for better service delivery.
Ayidu also, emphasised the need to look into redesigning and reconstruction of Inter-Bau Bridge transition, adding, the bridge was one of the causes of accidents in the area.
