DPO kills Apprentice in Lagos
Muhammed Yakubu, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ijesha Police Station, has allegedly shot dead one Jamiu Ayoade, an apprentice.
Ayoade, 23, was said to have been at a birthday party of one Abubakar Animashaun in the area before a patrol team led by Yakubu stormed the area.
The policemen had left after discovering the gathering was a birthday party. They however returned shortly afterwards shooting and disrupting the party. It was said that Ayoade and some others fled into a building. They were followed by Yakubu, who shot the tailor apprentice in the head and wounded another in the hand.

An eyewitness, Jelili Bakare, who claimed to be the birthday celebrant’s brother, said they reported the case at the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area after they were prevented from making a report at the Ijesha Police Division. He said an official, identified as Raji, invited the DPO for a chat in her office. Bakare said Raji had told them Yakubu claimed the deceased had a case with the police. He dismissed the claim saying the deceased was never a trouble maker.
Jamiu’s brother, Taofiq Ayoade, said the victim was rushed to a private hospital in the community from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. He died on their way to the hospital. He said he had been buried on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
His stepsister, Sadiat Ogunsola, said she had been catering to the victim since their father died a few years ago. She said that he had been learning tailoring since he could not afford to purchase his Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, form.
Olarinde Famous-Cole, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident but said the raid was related to cultist activities.
