ECOWAS launches initiative to strengthen media collaboration
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has initiated a collaborative effort with government-owned media outlets in the region to enhance accurate reporting of its activities and combat the spread of disinformation.
The initiative, launched as part of ECOWAS’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, aims to foster a stronger partnership between the organization and the media, ensuring that accurate information about ECOWAS’s programs and initiatives reaches the public.
At a high-level consultative meeting in Abuja, the Chief of Staff in the Office of the ECOWAS President, Hon. Abdou Kolley, emphasized the critical role of the media in shaping public opinion and countering misinformation.
He highlighted the challenges posed by disinformation, particularly on social media, and stressed the need for accurate media coverage to promote regional unity and trust.
The two-day event, organized in partnership with the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), focused on building media capacity to address these challenges and promote democratic values, peace, and development in the region.
