EFCC Chairman urges Nigerians to monitor constituency projects for transparency, development

In a bid to drive accountability and transparency in governance, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerians to actively monitor constituency projects initiated by their elected leaders.

Speaking at a one-day consultative meeting in Kano, hosted by the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Olukoyede emphasized that sustainable development can only be achieved if citizens hold politicians accountable for the execution of these projects.

The EFCC chairman outlined five key areas crucial for enhancing project delivery: community engagement, transparency in funding and execution, oversight mechanisms, public access to information, and partnerships with anti-corruption agencies.

He urged communities to ensure their leaders prioritize local needs and to scrutinize project details, including contractors, budgets, and timelines, to foster transparency.

Olukoyede noted that corruption erodes public trust and undermines development efforts, stressing the importance of public involvement in reporting suspected cases of corruption.

He reiterated that fighting corruption is a collective responsibility, urging every Nigerian to see themselves as stakeholders in the anti-corruption fight and to uphold integrity in their efforts.

“The fight against corruption cannot be won by anti-corruption agencies alone; it requires the participation of every Nigerian,” Olukoyede remarked, calling for greater public ownership of the anti-graft campaign.
