ENDSARS first anniversary kicks off in Abuja
The first anniversary rally by the #EndSARS movement has begun at Unity Fountain in Abuja on Wednesday.
The protesters gathered round a big banner, with the inscription, ‘We never forget. 20.10.20. #EndSARS memorial.’
Exactly a year ago, a protest against police brutality went out of hand despite the federal government quick acceptance of all the demands the youth-led rally made.
A curfew miscarried in Lagos eventually led to confrontation at the Lekki Toll Gate where soldiers keeping curfew allegedly killed protesters in what is now called the Lekki massacre.
Forensic analysis by a special panel the Lagos government set up however proved there were fatalities but no massacre, and that the military fired only blank bullets.
The incident sparked anti-police anger across the nation.
