FG warns Diplomats to stay clear Nigeria elections

The federal government has warned members of the diplomatic community to stay clear and desist from undue interference in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the re-scheduled elections on Saturday.
National Daily gathered that Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, issued the warning during an interactive session with members of the diplomatic corps in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
The minister of foreign affairs said Nigeria appreciates the support and engagement of the international community through the various observer missions but cautioned that Nigeria has absolute and exclusive responsibility for its electoral process.
The Minister cautioned members of the international community with a vested interest in Nigeria to be impartial in their observation in the interest of the country.
Onyeama also expressed disappointment at INEC’s postponement of the election despite the financial backing of the government.
The chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, admitted that the Commission under-estimated the inherent logistic challenges.
Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, reassured Nigerians and the international; community that adequate security will be provided for the rescheduled Saturday elections.
