Fubara moves to align with Amaechi’s loyalists to impeach Speaker
In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State Assembly finds itself at the center of a political storm, as the Speaker’s seat hangs in the balance, amid allegations of a plot to unseat Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Reports from reliable sources indicate that the speaker’s removal is imminent, with the governor seeking to align with former Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s loyalists.
The political landscape in Rivers State has been anything but tranquil, as simmering tensions between key figures have now erupted into a full-blown power struggle.
The crux of the matter revolves around the speaker, Martin Amaewhule, whose alleged involvement in a conspiracy to impeach Governor Fubara has sent shockwaves through the state’s political circles.
Amaewhule, who has been in the assembly since 2011, hails from Obio/Akpor LGA. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was elected on the promise of continuity and development, has not been oblivious to these brewing challenges.
