Gianfranco Zola: Sarri is a perfectionist
Gianfranco Zola has lifted the lid on on what it is like to work under Maurizio Sarri after Chelsea’s flying start to the season.
The Blues legend is on Sarri’s staff at Stamford Bridge and has helped oversee an unbeaten beginning to the campaign in all competitions.
Chelsea sit third in the Premier League, just two points behind pace-setters Manchester City and Liverpool , having won six and drawn three of their opening nine fixtures.
Sarri’s men host BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night before travelling to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Sunday.
And Zola has hailed the manager’s attention to detail as a key factor behind the club’s impressive form.
“It’s a lot, the level of details that he puts. He really doesn’t leave anything by chance,” Zola told Soccer AM . “So when the players go out on the pitch the players know everything about what they have to do and that’s a big help.
“He’s obsessed with knowing everything about the opposition and then going to the pitch to prepare everything.
“He knows player by player. All the key players of the opposition, how they defend, how they attack and so therefore doing everything to stop them from playing and playing around them, there is a lot of work.”
Zola was also asked if Sarri gives him ‘homework’, and replied: “I can not stop, I am watching more games in the last two months than in the last five years.”
