Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an investigation and the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the killing of an Accord Party chieftain, Olalekan Ajagungbade, popularly known as Emir, during a clash over control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.

Ajagungbade was reportedly shot dead on Sunday, September 13, at the Mayfair area of Ile-Ife during a confrontation linked to a leadership dispute over the management of the motor park.

According to reports, Ajagungbade and some of his associates were attending a meeting with commercial drivers when violence broke out. A security source said a distress call was received at about 1:25 p.m. after chaos erupted in the area.

The source alleged that Ajagungbade was shot in the head during the confrontation. Police subsequently took over the motor park as tension reportedly spread to other parts of Ile-Ife and Osun State.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed that Ajagungbade, also identified by his full name as Olalekan Oyeyemi in the command’s account, was shot and said it had commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to immediately arrest everyone found to be involved in the killing and ensure that normalcy is restored in the affected areas.

The governor also called for calm and directed security agencies to maintain law and order.

Adeleke further announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System across the state, saying the measure was intended to address disputes surrounding the management of motor parks and garages. He also directed rival groups involved in the leadership tussle to vacate the affected parks.

The killing has heightened concerns over security and control of motor parks in Osun, with authorities expected to intensify investigations as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

As of the latest reports, the police investigation remains ongoing, and the identities and legal status of any suspects have yet to be conclusively established.
