Heaven won’t fall if Buhari gives Tinubu the Ambode treatment – Reno Omokri
Judging by rumors making the rounds in the country’s political landscape, Buhari’s quest to pick a consensus candidate ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary has begun raising some dust in the ruling party.
Recall that on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari held a meeting with the 22 members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to solicit their help in ensuring the emergence of a formidable consensus candidate to fly the party’s flag at next year’s polls.
Speaking at the meeting, the president told the APC governors that he felt compelled to strengthen the party’s leadership, especially during this transition period. He also called on them to work with him in providing a presidential candidate “that will give Nigerians a sense of victory even before the elections begin”.
Quite interestingly, Buhari’s speech has opened a flood gate of speculations regarding who his preferred candidate will be, with rumors indicating that former Lagos Governor and presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu might be sidelined by the party’s leadership in the process.
This, in turn, has led to reports that Asiwaju’s loyalists within the ruling party have begun urging the president to jettison the idea of a consensus model of electing a flag bearer, insisting that all aspirants should be given an equal chance to fight for its presidential ticket at the upcoming primary.
Needless to say, this demand from Asiwaju’s supporters has sparked reactions from some prominent persons on social media.
Taking to his Twitter handle a few hours ago, former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, slammed Tinubu’s supporters for daring to demand that Buhari should not have a say on who succeeds him.
In his tweet, Mr. Omokri narrated how Asiwaju single-handedly denied Akinwunmi Ambode a second term as Lagos Governor despite various pleas from other state governors.
The former presidential aide went on to insist that heaven will not fall if Buhari denies Asiwaju his wish of emerging as the APC presidential flag bearer.
