Heavy Police deployment in Benue amid protest fears
The Benue State Police Command has deployed officers to strategic locations across the state capital, Makurdi, amid fears of potential unrest.
The increased security presence comes ahead of a planned nationwide protest slated for August 1.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has expressed concerns about the protest, citing the potential for violence and disruption.

He commended various groups in the state, including student unions and labor unions, for pledging not to participate in the demonstrations.
While assuring residents that the deployment of officers is aimed at maintaining peace and order, the police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, warned potential troublemakers against any attempt to breach the peace.
