The Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area (LGA), Peter Dogara, has restated the council’s commitment to peace building in the area.
Dogara said this when a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), African City of Refuge and Empowerment Foundation, paid him a courtesy visit in Kafanchan.
He explained that peace was critical to the development of any society as it provides a stable and secure environment for rapid growth and progress.
The LG boss said that plans had been concluded to revive the council’s security and peace committee in a bid to cultivate social cohesion and mutual trust among the diverse communities in the Local Government.
He expressed the council’s readiness to partner with any meaningful organisation to foster the course of peace and development in the area.
Earlier, Rev. Justin Nenge, the Executive Director of the African City of Refuge and Empowerment Foundation, said the organisation was on a peace dialogue tour on some communities affected by farmers/herders clashes in Jema’a.
Nenge decried the farmers/herders conflict in the area and beyond, noting that it has become a most pressing challenge.
He stressed the need to initiate a constructive dialogue, especially between farmers and herders, to identify conflict drivers and proffer ways to manage them.
