Kidnapped 20 Benue medical students rescued
In a dramatic turn of events, 20 medical students from Benue State University who were kidnapped have been successfully rescued.
The students, who were abducted while traveling to a rural community for a medical outreach program, have been safely returned to their families.
The abduction, which sent shockwaves through the state, occurred earlier this week. The students were reportedly taken by armed assailants who blocked the road and forcefully removed them from their vehicle.
The kidnappers then led the students into a nearby forest, demanding a ransom for their release.
Authorities in Benue State, working in collaboration with local security forces and community vigilantes, swiftly launched a rescue operation.
After days of intense search and negotiations, the students were located in a remote area. The rescue team, acting on a tip-off, surrounded the hideout and managed to secure the students’ release without any casualties.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State expressed relief and gratitude for the safe return of the students.

He commended the security forces and local communities for their efforts, highlighting the importance of cooperation in tackling insecurity in the region.
The students, though shaken by the ordeal, are reported to be in good health. They have been taken to a nearby hospital for medical check-ups and trauma counseling.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for improved security measures, particularly in areas prone to such attacks.
As investigations continue, authorities have vowed to apprehend those responsible for the kidnapping and ensure they face justice.
The rescue of the students has brought a sense of relief to their families and the wider community, but also serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the region.
