‘King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos’ hits cinemas Aug. 28

The epic Nollywood historical drama, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, will hit cinemas nationwide on Aug. 28.

Teqsus Studios, the production company, announced the release date in a post on its Instagram page.

“The battle for Lagos is coming.

“Power. Betrayal. Legacy.

“The story unfolds August 28 in cinemas nationwide,” the post read.

Directed by filmmaker Adebayo Tijani, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos is a Yoruba-language historical drama that tells the story of Oba Kosoko and the power struggles that shaped Lagos in the 19th century.

The film will have its grand premiere on Aug. 23 at IMAX Lekki, Lagos, ahead of its nationwide theatrical release.

Produced by Teqsus Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie explores the history of Lagos as a powerful kingdom before its transformation into a modern city.

Set between 1833 and 1852, the story focuses on struggles for the throne, political rivalries, leadership and resistance to external forces seeking to influence the affairs of the kingdom.

Femi Adebayo stars as King Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, with more than 70 actors featuring in the production.

The cast includes Odunlade Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, Fathia Williams, Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba and Femi Branch, among others.

The film joins a growing number of historical productions seeking to preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage and bring important stories from the country’s past to a wider cinema audience.
