Kwara APC, PDP in counter-blames over electoral violence in Ojoku
Violent clash between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a senatorial campaign in Ojoku, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State led to the death of two people and several others injured.
The All Progressives Congress accused the Peoples Democratic Party of masterminding the attack, while the PDP blamed APC for shooting and injuring several of its members.
The resumed political campaign claimed its first victims in Kwara State. During a campaign organized by the APC senatorial candidate for Kwara South, Lola Ashiru at Ojoku, the hometown of the serving senator who is also the senatorial candidate of the PDP, Rafiu Ibrahim. Violence erupted at the palace of the traditional ruler, leading to sporadic gunshots and destruction of vehicles. Both parties accused each other of masterminding the violent uprising during the campaign.
National Daily gathered that two APC supporters lost their lives while several injuries were recorded on both sides. The Kwara State Commissioner of Police in a statement assured that the situation in Ojoku is under control; noting that some suspects have been arrested and a manhunt for the remaining fleeing suspects have begun.
