Man bags 6 months imprisonment for selling friend’s goods

A Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced a 44-year-old man, Danison Life, to six months in jail for selling his friend’s property without consent.

The Judge, Ishaq Hassan, convicted and sentenced Life after he had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Hassan, however, gave the convict an option of payment of N15,000 fine in lieu of term at the correctional centre  and also ordered him to pay N120,000 as compensation to the complainant, Andrew Nwokorie..

The judge further warned him to desist from committing crime.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, had told the court that the complainant had on Nov. 3, reported the matter at the Jikwoyi Police Station.

“The complainant alleged that sometime early in 2022, he entrusted some of his property to the convict to keep for him and the latter collected N10,000 as fee for its safe keeping.

“However, on Nov. 1, when Nwokorie went to collect the said property from Life, but to the former’s greatest surprise, the convict had sold the property without his consent.

“The sold items include: two uniforms, new mattress valued N92,000 and one Binatone 500 watts stabiliser valued N18,000,” Adeyanju said.

He said the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
