A Karu Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced 22-year-old Isiya Yusuf, of no fixed address to five months imprisonment for stealing cables from an electric transformer.
Yusuf was sentenced for mischief an offence punishable under Sections 312 and 289 of the Penal code.
The Magistrate, Mariam Sai’d, who convicted Yusuf as he admitted committing the offence, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others. The prosecutor, Asahsim Helen, earlier told the court, that one Isaiah Gaza, reported the matter at Karu Police Station on Aug. 24.
She said that the complainant, a member of the Karu vigilante group, caught the defendant after he had cut
off the cables that supplied electricity from the electric transformer situated in Karu.
The prosecutor said that the convict admitted committing the crime during police investigation.
