Man to die by hanging for stealing
An Osun high court, Thursday in Osogbo, ruled that a convict be hanged for stealing.
Justice Kudrat Akano convicted 38-year-old Ndubusi Okonkwo on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Abiodun Alarape, said Okonkwo was caught with dangerous weapons and a Mercedes Benz car, marked AAA 75, on Aug. 5, 2014 at about 10.30 p.m. at Isida Street, Ilesa. He said Okonkwo could neither provide a valid license for the firearm nor prove his ownership of the car. He also told the court that the accused person conspired with others now at large to steal the vehicle before he was apprehended. The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 6 (1) (a) and 5 (1) of the Robbery and Fire Arm (Special Provision) Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Akponta Oku, appeared for the accused and futilely tried to persuade the judge to give a lighter sentence.
