Manchester City complete £10m move for Leicester teenage sensation Jeremy Monga

Manchester City have completed the signing of highly rated teenage winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City in a deal that could rise to £12.5 million, as the Premier League champions continue their investment in emerging talents.

The 17-year-old England youth international has signed a five-year contract with City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031. Although both clubs declined to reveal the official transfer fee, reports indicate that the initial agreement is worth around £10 million, with additional performance-based bonuses potentially increasing the value.

City moved quickly to secure Monga’s signature despite strong interest from other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Brentford, who had been monitoring the teenager’s progress.

Monga’s remarkable rise through Leicester’s academy and senior team ranks made him one of the most sought-after young players in English football.

He made his Premier League debut in April 2025 against Newcastle United at just 15 years old, becoming one of the youngest players ever to appear in the competition.

The winger continued to make history in August 2025 when he became Leicester City’s youngest-ever starter in a senior fixture during a Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield Town.

Days later, aged 16 years and 37 days, Monga broke Jude Bellingham’s record to become the youngest goalscorer in EFL Championship history after scoring against Preston North End.

Monga’s versatility and attacking ability were key factors behind City’s pursuit. Primarily operating as an inverted left winger, he is also capable of playing on either flank due to his technical ability and confidence with both feet.

The teenager made 37 senior appearances during his development at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, gaining valuable first-team experience at an unusually young age.

His arrival marks Manchester City’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the additions of goalkeeper Pierce Charles and midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Speaking after completing his move, Monga said Manchester City’s record of developing academy players influenced his decision to join the club.

“When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me,” he said.

He highlighted the pathways created for young players such as Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly as evidence that academy talents can progress into the first team.

City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana said the club’s scouting network had followed Monga’s development for a long time and believes the youngster has the potential to become an important player for the future.

Monga is expected to join City’s first-team setup immediately and could feature during the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Seoul.
