Courtois tips France vs Spain winner to lift 2026 World Cup trophy
Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has predicted that the team which emerges victorious in the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final between France and Spain will go on to win the tournament.
Courtois made the remark after Belgium’s World Cup campaign came to an end following a narrow quarter-final defeat to Spain.
Spain secured their place in the last four thanks to a decisive goal from substitute Mikel Merino, who struck the winner to send La Roja into a blockbuster semi-final clash against France.

Both European giants have enjoyed impressive runs at the tournament, remaining unbeaten and producing some of the competition’s standout performances. Their upcoming encounter is widely regarded as one of the biggest fixtures of the World Cup.
Speaking to reporters after Belgium’s elimination, Courtois expressed confidence that the eventual champion would come from the Spain-France showdown.
“Who gets the win in Spain-France, gets the World Cup,” the Belgian goalkeeper said.
The winner of the semi-final will advance to the World Cup final, where they will battle for football’s most coveted trophy next week.
Courtois’ prediction reflects the strength and consistency both France and Spain have displayed throughout the tournament, with many football observers viewing the clash as a potential early final
