Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike recounts near-death experience after private jet loses engine mid-air
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed how he narrowly escaped a plane crash, sharing his testimony during a church Thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The name of the church was not disclosed as of press time. According to TELL newspaper, Wike was aboard a Bombardier Global Express 5000/6000 series jet, reportedly valued at around N15 billion, when the aircraft suffered engine failure mid-flight.
In a now-viral video obtained by newsmen, the 57-year-old politician described the terrifying moment as a brush with death. He recalled deciding to fly to Lagos after his wife arrived in Port Harcourt from Lagos with their daughter. Accompanied by two friends, Wike said they took off in the plane but ran into trouble shortly after. “About fifteen minutes into the flight, we heard a loud ’gboom.’

The cabin crew panicked. I asked what was wrong, and one of them eventually returned to tell me one engine had failed,” Wike recounted.
The pilot advised that returning to Port Harcourt was the safest option. “We looked at each other… By God’s grace, we landed safely. I hadn’t even told my parents or many people I was travelling,” Wike said.
Before the Thanksgiving video surfaced, social media was awash with another clip allegedly capturing Wike’s voice praying as the jet’s pilots struggled to control the aircraft.
In the clip, Wike is heard crying out: “Satan, you are a liar! Father, Father! Oh Jehovah. Blood of Jesus! Father, it is time to prove yourself! Jesus, you are in charge! Ohhhh Jehovah! Save my soul, save my soul, save my soul!”
