More trouble for Sen President Lawan, APC senatorial candidate in Yobe, Machina, raises alarm over forged withdrawal letter
The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan may be in for more trouble in the preparations for the 2023 elections as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe North Senatorial District, Alhaji Bashir Machina, on Sunday raised alarm over fake letter purporting his resignation from the APC and withdrawal from the senatorial election, insisting that he has not withdrawn from the senatorial race. Invariably, Senate President Lawan would have a tough battle to fight to avoid being excluded in the 2023 senatorial election on the APC platform.
Machina, the APC candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 2023 election has refuted reports that he has stepped down for Senate President Lawan.
Alhaji Bashir Machina, on Sunday in Damaturu affirmed that it is not true that he had defected from the APC.
“It has been brought to my notice that some unscrupulous elements forged a letter of my withdrawal from the race out of mischief and blackmail.
“I state unequivocally that the letter was forged. I did not at any time withdraw or resign from the APC.
“I was shocked when I discovered that some persons concocted plans to mislead the public particularly, my supporters into believing that I have withdrawn,’’ Machina stated.
The candidate called on the national secretariat of the APC to issue a statement on the forged letter which carried its official stamp.
Machina stated also that he had instructed his lawyers to institute legal action against those behind the fake letter of his withdrawal from the race.
