A popular Nigerian actress, Stella Damasus, has revealed some details regarding her family’s history and why her surname got changed from ‘Ojukwu’ to ‘Damasus’. Stella made her revelations during her recent interview with Ebuka on Channels TV.
You may recall that Stella recently went viral after correcting people that her last name is not “Damascus”. Stella’s correction had drawn a lot of attention from fans who had gotten used to the mistake. Stella has since revealed more details regarding her last name.
Narrating the origin of her last name, Stella said, “Many people were used to calling me Damascus, and I had to address it. Damasus is a Greek name given to my grandfather. My original last name was Ojukwu, but it changed during the civil war. My people got attacked in Asaba because some people thought we were related to a popular Nigerian General at the time. The name got changed to Damasus before I was born. That was the explanation I got. I can not do anything about it.”
