NCAA probes incident as aircraft lands on under-construction road
Aviation authorities have raised concerns over a reported unauthorised flight operation from Asaba Airport in Delta State, an incident that has triggered renewed scrutiny of regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
According to initial reports, the flight, which departed without proper authorisation, has prompted the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to take immediate regulatory action, including the suspension of the operator’s permit pending further investigation.
The NCAA said the decision was necessary to ensure strict adherence to aviation safety standards and to prevent future breaches that could compromise passenger safety and airspace control. Officials added that investigations are ongoing to determine how the flight was cleared or allowed to operate outside approved procedures.
Aviation security experts have expressed concern over the incident, warning that lapses in regulatory compliance could undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s domestic air travel system. They stressed the importance of maintaining strict oversight, particularly in regional airports where monitoring challenges may be more pronounced.
The Asaba Airport, which serves as a key hub for domestic flights in the South-South region, has witnessed increased traffic in recent years as airlines expand their local operations.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the operator involved, but regulatory action remains in effect pending the outcome of the investigation.
The NCAA has reiterated its commitment to enforcing aviation safety standards across all airports in the country, stating that no breach of operating procedures will be tolerated as it works to maintain safety and efficiency in Nigeria’s airspace.
