No casualty as aircraft overshoots runway at Lagos Airport
Tragedy was averted on Friday night, September 8, when a United Nigeria Airlines aircraft overshot runway at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
It was gathered that the aircraft was returning from Owerri, Imo State when it skidded off runway 18R by 200 meters amidst downpour.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau in a statement on Saturday morning, September 9, said it has commenced an investigation into the incident involving the Embraer ERJ145 with registration number 5N-BWY.

The Bureau noted that the incident, which occurred around 06:33 p.m., had 51 passengers and four crew members onboard.
“The aircraft which was coming in from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport Owerri operated and landed normally but skidded off the runway upon landing.
All Passengers have also been safely evacuated alongside with their luggage. No passenger was hurt in the incident,” the statement said.
