Nollywood star Kate Henshaw explains fallout with Genevieve Nnaji
Nollywood veteran Kate Henshaw has finally addressed her long-rumoured fallout with fellow actress Genevieve Nnaji, revealing that their once-close friendship collapsed due to issues of trust.
Speaking during an interview on the Tea and Tay Podcast, Henshaw disclosed that the relationship between the two leading figures in Nigeria’s film industry gradually deteriorated despite their earlier closeness and frequent public appearances together.
According to her, what began as a strong friendship eventually broke down after she noticed a growing lack of trust from Genevieve Nnaji, a development she said created an emotional distance between them.

“We grew apart. She had some kind of mistrust about me. We even used to go to events together, then there came that gap. I don’t know what came over her, but me, I moved on,” she said.
Henshaw explained that friendships, especially in the entertainment industry, do not always stand the test of time, noting that people come into one’s life for different reasons and may not necessarily remain permanently.
She added that she chose to move on rather than dwell on the strained relationship, suggesting that she accepted the natural evolution of personal connections over time.
The revelation has reignited public interest in the relationship between the two Nollywood stars, who were once regarded as close friends and frequent collaborators within the Nigerian film industry.
Industry watchers note that both actresses have maintained successful independent careers over the years, with Henshaw known for her versatility in film and activism, while Nnaji has evolved into a globally recognised actress and filmmaker.
While neither party has previously spoken extensively about the alleged rift, Henshaw’s recent comments provide the clearest insight yet into what may have caused the breakdown in their friendship.
Entertainment analysts say such revelations are not uncommon in Nollywood, where intense professional schedules, competition, and evolving personal priorities often strain long-standing relationships.
However, they also stress that both actresses continue to command respect in the industry and remain influential figures in shaping Nigerian cinema’s growth and global recognition.
As reactions continue to trail Henshaw’s comments, fans have taken to social media to express mixed feelings, with many calling for reconciliation while others argue that personal boundaries should be respected.
