Northern leaders meet with Atiku in Abuja
Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency meeting with the PDP presidential candidate at his residence in Asokoro District, Abuja, on his return from the one week trip to the United States (US).
Those in attendance at the meeting include Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, G0overnor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, among others.
National Daily learnt that the meeting was not unconnected with the lingering crisis in the PDP in which southeast PDP governors, in alliance with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, including Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and others are vehemently agitating for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Ayu, and appointment of a southern national chairman for the PDP. The agitators subsequently pulled out of the Atiku presidential campaign for the 2023 elections; also threatening to work against the PDP and its candidate in the presidential election.
