Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will today make public presentation of his two new books as part of activities to commemorate his 88 birthday celebrations, which hit climax in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital today.
The books are, “Lest we forget: Slavery, Slave Trade, Emancipation and Reparation” and “Nigeria: Past and the Future.”
A statement by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo  Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Tuesday, hinted that the ceremony would also include a public lecture on slavery and Colonisation.
The Director General, Nigerian Institute for International Affairs, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae will deliver the lecture on “Echoes of the Past, Visions of the Future: Reflections on Slavery and Colonisation, and Nigeria’s Journey Towards a Promising Future.”
The celebration will include children performances, drama, dances, songs and goodwill messages with His Majesty, King Mswati III, Ngwenyama of Eswatini, Royal Palace Lobamba, Eswatini.
On the other hand, ‘Nigeria: Past and the Future’ explores the nation’s rich history and the roadmap toward a brighter, more promising future.
Together, these books are not just a contribution to literature but a call to action for healing, reconciliation, and the pursuit of a more just and equitable world.”
