Obaseki anointed candidate, Ighodalo wins Edo PDP governorship primaries
Asue Ighodalo, the anointed candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki, this Thursday evening, February 22, 2024, won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo Primary Election to emerge as the party’s candidate for September 2024 governorship election in the state.
Ighodalo, a lawyer and financial expert, won a total of 577 votes, while all his challengers who did not withdraw from the race scored zero votes.
Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who boycotted the exercise for a parallel congress which he won, garnered one vote.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, the Chief returning Officer of the primary election observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Ighodalo the winner of the exercise and the party’s candidate for the September ballot.
Two aspirants, Barr. Omosede Igbinedion and Rt. Hon. Ogbeide Ihama withdrew from the contest before voting by the delegates started.
