Opta supercomputer tips Arsenal to retain Premier League title
Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to retain the Premier League title in the 2026/27 season, according to predictions from the Opta Supercomputer.
The reigning champions have been given a 38.0 per cent probability of winning the title, placing them comfortably ahead of their closest challengers in Opta’s latest projections.
Arsenal finished last season seven points clear of Manchester City to claim the Premier League crown, with Manchester United and Aston Villa completing the top four.
Opta’s simulations suggest Arsenal remain the team most likely to finish at the summit despite the competition expected from several leading clubs.
Manchester City have been assigned a 20.5 percent chance of winning the title, making them Arsenal’s biggest projected challengers.
Liverpool follow with a 9.2 percent probability, while Manchester United have been given a 6.2 percent chance of lifting the trophy.
Aston Villa, who secured a top-four finish last season, have a 4.8 per cent chance, while Chelsea have been given a 4.1 per cent probability.

The projections underline Arsenal’s strong position heading into the new campaign, although the relatively modest probabilities for all clubs also point to a potentially competitive title race.
Arsenal’s status as defending champions comes after years of near misses under manager Mikel Arteta. The club had finished as runners-up in the previous three seasons before finally ending their long wait for the league title last term.
The Gunners will begin their title defence on Friday night when they host newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
Coventry returned to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after securing promotion from the Championship.
For Arsenal, the opening fixture provides an opportunity to immediately reinforce their status as favourites, while Coventry will look to mark their return to the top flight with a major upset.
Opta’s prediction, however, remains a statistical projection rather than a guarantee of the final outcome.
The supercomputer’s calculations are based on simulations and available performance data, while factors such as injuries, transfers, fixture congestion and changes in form could significantly alter the title race during the season.
With Arsenal starting as the leading candidate, Manchester City and Liverpool are expected to provide the strongest challenge, while Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea remain among the clubs with realistic ambitions of finishing in the leading positions.
