Pastor Chris Oyakhilome mourns mother, Deaconess Angel, at 88

Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, mother of Christ Embassy founder and President, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has died at the age of 88.

Pastor Chris announced her death on Friday, paying tribute to his mother and reflecting on her influence on his life, faith and upbringing.

According to the Man of God, Deaconess Oyakhilome passed away on Friday morning after spending her final weeks surrounded by her children and loved ones.

“Yesterday, Friday morning, my sweet mum passed on to be with the Lord,” Pastor Chris said.

He said the family was comforted by their Christian faith and its teaching on the eternal destination of believers.

Pastor Chris also recalled the time he spent with his mother in recent years, saying he frequently expressed his gratitude for the values and lessons she and his father instilled in him and his siblings.

He particularly thanked her for teaching him basic life skills and, more importantly, for raising the family in a Christian home.

“I said, ‘Mommy, you know, I’m so grateful to you for all the things you taught me,’” he recounted.

He said he repeatedly thanked his mother for teaching him how to brush his teeth, dress properly and, most importantly, for creating a home where he and his siblings were introduced to Jesus Christ and taught biblical values.

Pastor Chris said he had deliberately expressed his appreciation to his mother over the past six or seven years, especially as it became apparent that her time might be drawing near.

“I definitely loved my mom. She was amazing. She was so sweet,” he said, describing her as “one of a kind.”

The Christ Embassy founder also noted that he bore a strong resemblance to his mother, saying his siblings often remarked that he looked most like her.

He said details of the funeral arrangements would be announced later, explaining that the family had not yet had time to finalise the ceremonies following her death.

Deaconess Oyakhilome was a respected figure within the LoveWorld ministry and was recognised over the years for her contributions to the growth of the organisation.

Her children include Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder and president of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy; Rev. Ken Oyakhilome; and Kathy Woghiren.

In 2022, Deaconess Oyakhilome received a special commendation at the ministry’s Presidential Awards in recognition of her “immense contributions” to the expansion of LoveWorld Nation.

The ministry is expected to announce details of her funeral ceremonies in due course.
