PDP gov candidate, Dauda Lawal, defeats Gov Matawalle in Zamfara
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, in the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gusau in the early hours of Tuesday, defeated Governor Bello Matawalle in the Saturday governorship election.
Lawal won the governorship election with 377,726 votes, while Governor Matawalle, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had 311,976 votes.
There was controversy over the results for Maradun Local Government Area (LGA), after the Collation Officer, Dr Ahmed Kainuwa, was reported to be kidnapped. The collation officer, however, later arrived the collation centre at the INEC headquarters in Gusau for the announcement of the result.
