Police arrest man for stealing car from Uber driver in Lagos
The Police have disclosed the arrest of a man for allegedly stealing a car from an Uber driver in Lagos.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed @lagospedia that an Uber driver reported the stealing of his car at the Akinpelu Police Division on July 5.
The PPRO narrated that the driver had picked up a passenger, who identified himself as Isaiah, from the NNPC filling station in Maryland; adding that the passenger requested to be taken to a hotel in Oshodi.
According to Hundeyin, “Upon arriving at the hotel, the suspect offered to buy food for the driver, including a plate of pepper soup and an energy drink.
“In the process, when the suspect was looking for a cotton bud to clean his ear, the driver gave him his car key to use.
“The suspect then went downstairs with the car key and drove away with the vehicle from where it was parked.”
The PPRO stated that fortunately, a team of police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation on Boladale Street intercepted the suspect.
“When he could not give a satisfactory account of the car’s ownership, he was arrested,” Hundeyin declared.
The PPRO said that the driver arrived the scene as the police were preparing to take the suspect to the station and was able to identify his car.
The suspect has been detained for further investigation, Hundeyin said.
