Police arrest man, wife, for burying newborn baby alive to cover up unwanted pregnancy
The Police have disclosed the arrest of a man and his wife for burying their newborn baby alive to cover up unwanted pregnancy in Kiyawa Local Government Area, Jigawa State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, in a statement, narrated that on receipt of the hideous report, a team of Policemen mobilized and proceeded to the scene of the crime.
The PPRO said that Balaraba Shehu, 30 year, of Tsurma village, mother of the child, and Amadu Sale, known as Dan Kwairo, 25 years, conspired to kill the child to cover up their unwanted pregnancy.
According to the PPRO, “on arrival, detectives swung into action and exhumed the newborn baby from the toilet, where he was buried by the suspected mother. The suspects were arrested and are now in police custody.”
The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police of the Jigawa State Command, CP Emmanuel Ekot Effiom, directed that the case be transferred to SCID, Dutse, for discreet investigation
The PPRO added that suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
